「WORLD MASTERS GAMES (WMG) 2021 KANSAI」 is an international multi-sport event open for sport lovers over the age of 30. Orienteering is one of its competitions.
Participants of orienteering are given a special prepared map to navigate from point to point in nature whilst moving at speed. One of its attractions is to enjoy the magnificent sceneries of nature along the self-determined route.
This time, let’s look at the enjoyable spots in Yabushi, Kamikawacho, and Kamicho in Hyogo, the stage of the exciting orienteering game.
The Breathtaking Terrace Only in Japan
“Bekku Terrace”, Yabushi
Yabushi, Kamikawacho, and Kamicho, which are the stage of the game, offer spots to take in striking views of the only-in-Japan terraces.
Terrace is a piece of sloped plane carved into mountains and cut successively receding flat platforms for farming. It is said that they have been existing in Japan since the Kofun period (mid-6th to first half of the 7th century). They have played an important role to support the development of agriculture in Japan. WMG2021 KANSAI luckily overlaps with the planting season so participants may see the precious views in which farms with rice plants match perfectly with the splendid sky.
“Bekku terrace” is located in front of Mt. Hyonosen in Yabushi with as many as 130 beautiful planting fields. On the other hand, Kamikawacho offers “Okuizasa terrace” with a panoramic view of a farm village all surrounded by greenish mountains. Last but not least, Isarigami is a village with a lot of terraces as villagers all rely on them for living. It is also selected as one of the 100 terraces in Japan.
Even the same terrace could be viewed differently at various spots. Visit all three and enjoy the breathtaking beauties of nature.

Akenobekozan in Yabushi was once the top tin-mining mountain in Japan. It was designated as a national heritage in 2017 for its significance to reveal its historical stories. Now, it is a tourist spot at where visitors to go deep the mine trails upon reservation. (No reservation is needed on every Sunday)
Green Echo Kasagata in Kamikawacho organises a “Carp Streamer Swimming Festival” from April to June every year for the healthy growth of children. One single carp streamer (Koinobori) could be common in houses in Japan while as many as a thousand dancing together in the wind could be very much different. It would be, absolutely, a stunning cultural experience of yours in Japan.
“Ojiro Forest of Ancient Experience” (Ojiro kodai taikenomori) in Kamicho offers workshops for visitors to have a journey to the ancient time- special dining and earthenware making. A stroll in the uncultivated nature would take you to the old times.
These interesting spots in the game venue offer more than just a sightseeing trip in Japan as they still remain unknown to many Japan lovers. Take this opportunity to experience Japan, deeper and wider.

At all events, it is the essence of the attraction of the Kamicho’s nature. Warm your stomach with this local dish and energise your body for the game!
