Shimoda is located in the east side of southern part of the Izu peninsula in Shizuoka prefecture. The name “Shimoda onsen” generally refers to five hot spring areas in Shimoda- Rendaiji onsen, Kochi onsen, Shirahama onsen, Kannon onsen, and Aitama onsen.

To get to Shimoda from Tokyo, first get on the shinkansen (bullet chain) at “Tokyo station” (approx. 40-min) and get off at “Atami station”. Change to JR line there and get off at “Izukyu Shimoda station” (approx. 90-min).
