「WORLD MASTERS GAMES (WMG) 2021 KANSAI」is an international multi-sports game open for everyone above the age of 30 (35 for badminton). The 10th games this time is held in Kansai region, Japan, with various games open for application including badminton, the well-loved sport in Malaysia. This time, we would love to talk about some great visiting spots in Kyoto, which are very much popular among Malaysian.

Basic Information about Kyoto

Kyoto is in west Japan (Kansai region), in North East of Osaka. In May when WMG2021 KANSAI takes place, the weather is relatively cooler when compared with Malaysia (about 14 – 24 degree Celsius). It is a sunny season without much rain, which is perfect for sightseeing. You can chill around in the city with your jacket or hoodie.

Kyoto is a historical city with a huge number of visiting spots, and it is a place for visitors to feel the traditions of Japan. Kyoto is one of the most typical Japanese cities, the best place to experience Japan’s traditions.

When Talking about the Highlight of Kyoto- Fushimi Inari Taisha

Fushimi Inari Taisha is a shrine in just 5 mins train ride from Kyoto station- the shrine is right next to the station. Since the ancient time, it is believed that the shrine is dedicated to guardians for successful business, prosperity and safety of family, safety in transportation and growth of skills. It is the main hall of all 30,000 Inari shrines all over Japan.

Have you ever seen these bright red Torii gates on SNS or in magazine? Along the mountain trail and the approach of the shrine there are as many as 10,000 such Torii gate. From some angles you see a long tunnel formed by these gates, which is absolutely a kind of mysterious beauty. Be mindful that there are full of stairs inside the shrine so wear appropriately and arrange enough time for your great experience.

Tastes exclusive to Kyoto, Kyoto cuisine

There are tremendous great tastes exclusive to Kyoto. “Kyoto cuisine” is a generic term for five kinds of Japanese food categories- Daikyo cuisine, Shojin cuisine, Honzen cuisine, Kaiseki cuisine, and Yusoku cuisine, which are all differently featured.

For instance, Shojin is a historical Japanese cuisine centred on vegetables, botanical ingredients like soy beans and stews. It is particularly pervasive and loved in recent years for its healthiness. Dishes in Kyoto cuisine are normally called “Obanzai”, which are prepared with seasonal fresh ingredients used up for one portion without overdoing steps.

These cuisines are available in Kyoto city. Some restaurants are extremely popular so one month advanced reservation is needed. To delight your WMG2021 journey with great tastes, it is advisable to plan and get things prepared early!
