Nasushiobara is a town located in the northeastern part of Tochigi Prefecture. Mountains such as Nasu Godake are located in the northwestern part, and at the foot of the mountain, there are onsen resorts and spots with beautiful natural views. On the other hand, the southeastern part is an urban area, and the main stations of JR Utsunomiya Line are located here, each with its own atmosphere.

Nasu Area
Nasu is an area centered on the town of Nasu. The area is also called “Nasu Kogen”. Tourist attractions are rich in variety, such as historical sites, theme parks, large shopping malls, and Nasu Onsenkyo. Among these, Nasu Onsenkyo is an onsen resort discovered about 1,300 years ago, and there are many hotels and shops here.
Shiobara Area
Shiobara is located in the west of Nasushiobara city, and is an area centered on “Shiobara Onsenkyo”. Shiobara Onsenkyo is an onsen with a history of over 1,200 years since its discovery, and it is an onsen area with many things such as ryokan and restaurants. There is also a foot bath facility called “Yupponosato”, where you can experience Japan’s largest foot bath, with a total length of 60 meters. In addition, there are over 10 waterfalls including “Ryuka Falls”, 12 suspension bridges, caves, and other touristF attractions.
Kuroiso Area
Kuroisu refers to an area within about 30 minutes by bus from JR Utsunomiya Line “Kuroiso Station”. There are many spots where you can admire the magnificent nature, such as “Namuppara Marshland” and Otome Falls. In addition, although they are small, there is also the Itamuro Onsen resort, which has several accommodations. As Itamuro Onsen is located along the Nakagawa River, you can also experience activities such as canoeing, playing in the river, and trekking.
Nishi Nasuno Area
Nishi Nasuno refers to an area within 20 minutes by bus from JR Utsunomiya Line “Nishi Nasuno Station”. Tourist attractions are diverse, including things such as villas, shrines, and museums built in the Meiji era, and “Nasu Senbonmatsu Farm”, where you can interact with animals and ride a balloon. There is also the one-day onsen “Senbonmatsu Onsen” with a foot bath, so be sure to visit if you have the time!
Foods and Restaurants of Nasushiobara
Nasushiobara has two specialty gourmet dishes: “Yakisoba with Soup” and “Toteyaki”. Yakisoba with soup is soy sauce flavored soup poured into sauce Yakisoba. On the other hand, Toteyaki is a soft dough using eggs and milk, and foods such as croquettes, yakisoba, sushi, and fruits are put inside.

Accomodation facilities of Nasushiobara are concentrated in urban areas along the JR Tohoku Shinkansen Utsunomiya Line, and onsen resorts of each area. There are more hotels in the urban areas as well as Nasu area, and more ryokan in the Shiobara and Kuroiso areas.
Access to Nasushiobara from Tokyo
To go from the Tokyo area to Nasushiobara, first get to "Tokyo Station". By getting on the JR Tohoku Shinkansen from Tokyo Station, you can arrive at "Nasushiobara Station" in about 1 hour and 10 minutes. In addition, since each sightseeing area is far from Nasushiobara-kan Station, you’ll need to use a conventional line and a route bus from the station.
