Experience Chiba's Boso no Mura! A Museum that displays Traditional Japanese Architecture

“Experience Museum Chiba Prefectural Boso-no-Mura” (千葉県立房総のむら) is a museum that displays archaeological relics excavated from various placed throughout the prefecture, as well as recreations of warrior, business, and farmer family houses and so on. You can experience the traditional lifestyles and techniques of Japan and Boso. You can deepen your understanding of traditional culture in the “Boso Region”, which is the main area of present-day Chiba.

Boso no Mura reproduces, in full, the buildings of warrior, business, and farmer family houses, etc. There are 78 buildings, large and small, from the late Edo period to the Meiji period. In addition, archaeological relics excavated from various places throughout the prefecture are also displayed. Through these exhibits, you can learn about the history of Boso. There are a variety of experience corners such as candle and bamboo-work production, and candy and soba making. Events such as seasonal festivals, Enbu (martial arts performance), folk art performances, and exhibitions are also held.

Guide to Boso no Mura

Boso no Mura is open from 09:00 to 16:30 (opening hours may be extended on some days). It is closed on Mondays (opened on holidays and closed the next day), New Year's season, and temporary closed days. The admission fee is 300 yen for adults, 150 yen for university and high school students, and free for junior high students and under. The estimated time to go through the museum is about 2 hours if you take your time.

Cosplay Photography at "Chiba Prefectural Boso no Mura"

For cosplay photography at “Chiba Prefectural Boso no Mura”, you dress in Japanese clothing, and you can photograph your cosplay as long as you follow the regulations for the costumes, poses, and actions set by the museum. Cosplay photography requires reservation by phone. In addition, if there are events being held within the museum, it takes precedence and reservations are not possible. Even if you have already made a reservation, it may be refused based on the museum’s circumstances.

Access from Narita Airport to Boso no Mura

To get from Narita Airport to Boso no Mura, get on the Keisei Main Line bound for Keisei Ueno at Narita Airport Station, and get off at Keisei Narita Station. Walk to “JR Narita Station” to get on the JR Narita Station Line, and get off at Ajiki Station (安食駅). From the JR Narita Station West Exit, take a bus bound for "Ryukakujidai-Shako" (竜角寺台車庫) and get off at “Ryukakujidai 2-chome” (竜角寺台２丁目) stop, and the museum is about 8 minutes on foot from there.
