Hakone Yumoto Ekimae Shopping Street is a place where souvenirs from all over Hakone are sold in the shops that line the street. As it is an old hotspring town, souvenirs are often old-fashioned. However, there are also plenty of newer types of souvenirs as well. Popular for its "Nuts Vessel,” a cookie dough that is coated with various nuts and topped with caramel, Hakone SAGAMIYA is a popular shop where people vist solely for this product. It can be stored for 90 days at room temperature, so it is recommended as a souvenir.

A popular souvenir at the gift shop in the Okada Museum of Art is chocolate made by famous chocolatiers. You can purchase sweets that look just as marvelous as they taste, such as chocolates printed with the work of Japanese master painters, and chocolate bars with nuts and dried fruits.

Nakamura-ya is a well-established souvenir shop located just off of Gora Station. Delicious souvenirs of Hakone are sold here, including the famous Gora manju. Nakamura-ya also sells rich colored parquet made by artisans using natural wood grain. Items such as puzzle boxes that cannot be opened with a key and wooden chopsticks are popular souvenirs.

Chouzume-ya is a well-known store and recipient of a gold medal in a contest held by the German Agricultural Products Association (DLG) with full marks, beating out 200 other entries. A carefully crafted sausage with minimal additives is a perfect souvenir. Visitors can have a meal with Hakone beer at the eat-in space inside the store. It is a wonderful point to be able to purchase after being convinced by the taste.

Shopping at the Hakone Sekisho Museum

The Hakone’s travel checkpoint is a historical site originally established to maintain the peace and security of Edo. Adjacent to the station is the Hakone Sekisho Museum. The stalls and the Gobansho Cha-ya are designed in the image of the Edo period. Inside the shops visitors can find food products such as smoked eggs, Hakone Chikara Mochi, and local sake that can only be bought in this area. Hakone wood parquet are also sold here. It is a spot that takes people back in time to the Edo period.
