Most are set up in the middle of onsen towns, and can be easily enjoyed without having to remove all your clothes. The best part of it is that most of them are free!
In the Izu Kogen station, you will find a free Ashiyu right by the station. It is beautifully decorated with blossoms of the season, and there is even a footpath to massage your feet before or after your footbath.
For those who are not so keen on soaking your feet into a common bath, there are also taps from which you can wash your face or hands.
It is said that ashiyu are good in encouraging blood circulation – this is much needed given the amount of walking we do when in Japan. Do keep your eyes out for these fun and (mostly) free amenity special to Japan!
