Have you heard of しらす Shirasu?
They are types of sardines only made in Japan!
A few weeks ago, I went to Enoshima with my mother and along the way, I saw this. A restaurant full of baby fish so little and transparent.
That right there, that fish is called しらす Shirasu. Shirasu are actually young sardines, something we don’t see too often outside Japan.
But here, it’s super tiny….
It’s salty and really delicious!
These are boiled shirasu, with a more fluffy texture and matches well with soy sauce and daikon.
The blue one right there is very famous for omiyage or gifts from Enoshima. It is called Shirasu Senbei (Rice cracker with sardine flavour) and Shirasu Pie.
Next time you go to Enoshima, don’t forget to try SHIRASU!!
