Have you ever wanted your potato chips to be sweet?
Probably not, but I do admit that Japanese food companies have often released snacks and drinks that raises your eyebrows before, such as Black burger from Burger King.
But those burgers, despite its unnatural color, seemed edible.
Now let’s see if we could surprise you even more.
Japanese snack maker Koikeya introduced three new flavors to their popular potato chips series.
That is...fruits. What?!
The company says they want potato chips to become a fourth breakfast food besides bread, rice and granola.
Here’s Banana.
Unlike the normal dried banana chips, it is actual potato chips which taste like bananas.
It is more like potato chips coated with sugar and banana tasting powder.
It is not salty like a regular potato chips, it is sweet.
Here is the next.
The peach flavor.
As soon as you put them in your mouth, the artificial peach aroma hits your nose.
It is like eating peach flavor candy, but with the texture of a potato chip.
At last, mikan orange flavor.
It is sweet as well, but a you can taste a hint of citrusy sourness from the orange.
I’ve done my best trying to explain how it tastes, but if I were to put it in one word: it’s just UNIQUE.
I guess my brain and tongue has been programmed to expect a salty flavor as soon as I see a bag of potato chips (I can’t believe I’m writing this, but you’ll understand once you’ve had a taste of these chips)
So, would it be a replacement for breakfast?
One thing I can guarantee, is that it will come no where near my dining table nor the sofa.
Bananas and peaches are great breakfast food on their own, but not with chips.
However, one of my friends had a different impression.
She was definitely happier than me with them.
She said they might not make a perfect breakfast, but they are great with a glass of wine.
My 6 years old niece loved them too.
Brace yourself and see if you like it or not.
