Fun! Japan Team AL and Memmy are back with Visit Japan reports!!
After going to one of the most astonishing human made objects in Japan Kurobe Dam, Jojo, Winy, Dear and Mama went to one of the most beautiful natural objects in Japan: Yuki-no-Otani Snow Wall in Murodo.
To reach Murodo, we have to use 3 means of transportation from Kurobe Dam: cable car, rope way and trolley bus.
These is photo of the winners in Kurobeko station waiting for cable car.
The cable car is automatically operated but it still has its own control room inside.
What do you think about the control room? Do you think it looks like train control room?
And look at the windows! You can see the cable car has gone through a very long tunnel. Yup, the cable car is going through inside the mountain so it passes steep dark long tunnel. We couldn’t imagine how tired we would be if there were no cable car :o
This time it was not a dark tunnel. We could enjoy very beautiful mountain landscape from the rope way.
In Daikanbo, the weather became even colder. It was around 10 degree Celcius that day!!
From here, we still can see Kurobe Dam, but it is really small!!

From Daikanbo we rode trolley bus to Murodo. After 10 minutes journey in Tateyama mountain, we arrived in Murodo! It is 2,390 meters above sea level!!
In Murodo, wherever you glanced, you could only see white snow and only few greens!!

In Murodo, finally we could see the famous Yuki-no-Otani snow wall, yeay!!!
To illustrate how tall the snow wall was, you can take a look at Dear and Mama photo below.
It’s already May. And the snow wall was still several times taller than human!!
The snow wall is high because it receives some of heaviest snowfall in the world. The 500meters-long snow wall is formed each spring on either side of the highway after snow is cleared for the opening of the Alpine Route.
Oyeah, many people also wrote their name in this snow wall.
We took this opportunity to write Fun! Japan logo and posed with it :p
We also took photo of Fun! Japan T-shirt! Hehehe
After long walk, finally we reached highest point of the snow wall.
The height was 13 metres!!
Although we couldn’t witness yearly highest recorded snow wall (20 meters), we were still amazed on how tall the snow wall is.
After 1.5 hours exploring Yuki-no-Otani, we went back to Tateyama station using bus and cable car. The last cable car we rode has cute painted decorations in its body!
Then, we rode the bus to our hotel Tonami Royal Hotel in Toyama prefecture.
The hotel is a mixed off between Ryokan (Japanese style hotel) and western style hotel.
Just look at the room where the winners stayed. While the bed is western style, the half of the room is tatami room!
It has hot spring, sauna and huge hall where one can hold their wedding ceremony.
We highly recommend this hotel if you decide to visit Alpine Route :D
As soon as we arrived at the hotel, we got chance to eat full course Japanese dinner!!

These were foods that we ate! There were two kinds of courses. The upper photo is regular course, and the lower one is vegetarian course (It’s halal guys!). Can you distinguish the differences guys?
