Located in Monzen-nakacho in south-east Tokyo, Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine is one the most important Tokyo Shrine.
It has been founded in 1627 to revere Hachiman, the god of archery and war, that’s why it was popular among warriors clans.
Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine is one of the ten most important shrines of Tokyo, a list created in Edo era.
The shrine has been destroyed during the World War 2, but fortunately it has been reconstructed after.
The shrine is also famous for sumo.
The founder of professional sumo, Kanji Zumo build this part of the temple.
Twice a year, sumo wrestlers from Tokyo have to pray and greet this monument before the sumo season.
Many of brands are many by wrestler who got a new grade in the sumo hierarchy.
Tomioka Hachimangu Shrine also hosts one of the biggest summer festival of Tokyo in mid-August.

The small street going to the temple is filled with traditional shops selling Japanese sweets and food.
