Flashing neon lights and the Glico man.
These are the symbols of Osaka I found on my walk today.
In this famous advertisement, you will be able to see that the Glico man is running.
In fact, he has been doing so for a very, very long time.
From the world cup, to the Hanshin Tigers (Osaka Baseball team) games, the Glico man, tirelessly exemplifies the spirit of endurance and never giving up.
In fact, that was probably what the food company Glico, responsible for this ad, wants you to know!
Through this advertisement, they hope that they can symbolize the energy their products give you.
You'll be able to find many of their products in the supermarket, especially in the chocolate section!
The current Glico man is the sixth generation.
The previous five, with the original one being installed in 1935, were made of neon lights.
However, the latest one installed in 2014, is made of LED lights.
These reflect changing times as the world seeks to be Eco-friendly.
I personally think the LED lights add new charm, as the visuals are much more dynamic.
If you're patient enough, you'll see the man running through the cities of the world.
To get to the Glico man, take a train towards Namba station.
Look for Ebisu-bashi Bridge on the map.
From there, it is a short 10 minute walk.
Alternately, there are boat rides that one can take to get a more unique look at the Glico man.
Whichever way you take to visit him, please do not forget what he symbolizes!
