It’s mid winter in Japan and snow is falling in many places.

The air and wind are icy and you can everyone saying “I’m cold!”.

Do you know how to say it in Japanese, and that’s there’s two words to “cold””?

The first word used to say “cold” in Japanese is “samui” 寒い.

Samui is used to describe the cold weather but also when feeling cold.
People going outside and complaining about the weather will say “Samui!”, as well as when they feel cold.

There’s another word to say “cold” which is “tsumetai” 冷たい.

Tsumetai is used to describe cold tangible things.
For example a cold drink or cold hands.

So you can feel “samui” because of the weather and have “tsumetai” hands!

It’s not that complicated to used once you trained a little!
