Hi, Navio here!
So last Sunday morning, I finally managed to see the Tokyo Marathon, live!
This year, the START line is located in Tokyo Tocho / Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
For people who follow this website regularly, you guys might recognize this name from an old article that I wrote.
Yep, the one about the Observatory / Sky Deck.
Back with the Tokyo Marathon.
The Day We Unite, Sunday February 22 2015.
Tokyo Marathon is an annual marathon event held in the capital city of Japan, Tokyo.
Sponsored by Tokyo Metro, Tokyo Marathon is an IAFF Gold Label Marathon, and one of the Six World Marathon Majors.
This year, I decided to see it from the START line.
The closest station is Tochomae Station (Toei Oedo Line)
As you can see from the photo above, roads were closed to create a route for the runners.
It was about 5° / 6°C in the morning.
I was shivering while holding my camera, I couldn’t imagined how those people managed to wear that kind of T-Shirt and ran the whole course.
Tokyo Marathon 2015 is divided into 2 :
1. 10 km Race (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building - Iidabashi - Imperial Palace - Hibiya Park) ended around 10:50
2. Marathon Race (Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building - Iidabashi - Imperial Palace - Hibiya - Shinagawa - Ginza - Nihonbashi - Asakusa Kaminari-mon - Tsukiji - Toyosu - Tokyo Big Sight) ended around 16:10
Participants on wheelchairs left first at around 9:05 AM.
5 minutes after, around 9:10 AM, the runners left the start line.
Not only Japanese runners, there were also many runners from other countries.
How do I know?
Some of them even wore the flags of their country, and some of them, well, a lucky guess? haha no.
Most of the runners that *I guess* come from outside Asia, were tall!
They stood out among the Japanese runners.
Colorful, fast, I really enjoyed the view.
Because they ran along the course, you can check the official website of Tokyo Marathon and give the runners support by standing along the route.
Not only young runners, middle aged runners are also welcome!
I will definitely watch the Tokyo Marathon 2016 again, or maybe participating as runner? haha :D
