The park is very popular with families since there’s a huge playground area for children, but there are also other things to discover.

Let’s go!
Asukayama park has a lot of trees, most of them cherry trees. During the cherry blossom season, the park is totally covered with pink flowers and many people come and picnic under the flowers.
The park has been planned by the shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune in the 18th century who wanted to offer a spot to admire cherry blossoms to Edo inhabitants.
Asukayama means ”mountain of the phoenix” in Japanese.
You can see the phoenix symbol on this jacket.

The most famous spot of the park is the ridiculously small and short monorail which runs only for 40 meters!! This cute monorail is called “Escargot” a pun between the name “Asukayama” and “Escargot” since it’s shaped like a snail.
Since the ride is free, it’s very popular among families with kids.

You can see Ôji station above the park.
Here is the children playground.
Even if most of the playground are a little bit old, children love them.
If I was a kid, I would love play on this huge castle or those animals.
There’s also some small kiosks to buy some snacks and drinks.
In the back of the playground, you can enter two old trains!
The first one is an old tramway wagon.
This other one is a old steam locomotive!
Asukayama park also has three small museums : the Paper Museum, the Museum of Kita City Asukayama with a lot of antics and informations about the history of the city and the Shibusawa Memorial.
Asukayama is very pleasant park in spring, but it’s also a nice place to go with children is you want to visit around Ôji.
