We’ve emerged from Rainy Season and into Summer Season in Japan!
Summers in Japan are hot and humid, with temperatures into the 30 degree C range and humidity levels above 80%.
That’s where “natsubate” comes in.
“Natsu” (summer) and “bateru” (to be exhausted) combine to make the term “natsubate,” which is a condition of exhaustion and tiredness due to the summer heat. Not only do you lose energy to do anything, you also lose your appetite!
When I get natsubate, all I want to do is stay home and eat cold noodles or shaved ice!
