Meaning « hot and humid » in Japanese.
Japanese summer season is pretty humid which is why the word to describe it is « Mushi atsui » 蒸し暑い.
« Mushi atsui » 蒸し暑い is composed of two chinese characters.
蒸し which means « steam » and 暑い which means hot.
This is why in Japan, everyone is having a handkerchief or a small hand towel in the pocket to wipe sweat off.
« Mushi atsui » 蒸し暑い weather might be difficult to bear, but there’s many ways to overcome.
First, integrated in recent air conditioning, you can find a « room dry » mode which will dry the air around you.
Powder sheets or refreshing lotion sheets are also available in convenience stores or drugstores to wipe your face and neck with.
There are other ways such as wearing large summer clothes made from cotton, hemp, or linen.
These type of clothing are traditional Japanese summer clothes called « Jimbei » or Yukata.
