This week let’s learn a word which is very useful while traveling.
“Yoyaku” (予約) which means “reservation” in Japanese.

Let’s see how to use it!

“Reservation” is a word you can't ignore if you’re going on a trip.

It could be for reserving a hotel, a restaurant, a show, or anything else in particular.

When entering a hotel, you’ll be asked:
“Yoyaku ga arimasu ka?”
“Do you have a reservation?”

You can answer like this for example :
“Tanaka de yoyaku shimashita.”
“I reserved under the name Tanaka.”

If you want to book a show or a guided tour, it might be written “yoyaku hitsuyô” (予約必要) which means “reservation required”.

For reserving a restaurant, you can ask by phone :
“Yoyaku shitai desu.”
“I want to make a reservation”

When you’ll arrive, there’ll be a small “yoyaku” (予約) panel or note on your table.

Please remember this word if you visit Japan on your own!
