This week’s Fun Japan Word is about how you feel.

Kimochi (気持ち) means “feeling” in Japanese. The word is made from kanji Ki (気) which means "soul, spirit" and mochi (持ち) which means "to have, to possess something".

Kimochi can be used to describe various feelings using adjectives like good or bad.
It could be feeling about almost anything from cold to love for example.

You can say “Kimochi ga ii” for a good feeling, like fresh breeze in the summer, or “Kimochi ga warui” for something disgusting.

Many young people use a familiar shortened version of  “Kimochi ga ii” which sounds like “Kimochii!” to say “Feels good!”.

Why not try to use it when you come to Japan?
People will be surprised to hear you say it!

You’ll hear or read it very often in manga, anime, movies or dramas, especially in love stories.
