Shinbachi Shokudô is a restaurant specializing in grilled fish, located on the west side of Shinjuku station.

There are more than 10 kinds of charcoal grilled fish to choose from.

Regular dishes are translated in English for foreigners.

Grilled fish in Japan aren’t all that simple as you think. 

There are various ways to prepare it. 

Some are simply grilled from raw, some have gone through a drying process, salted, or marinated in miso.

The menu is composed of grilled fish for the main dish, then miso soup, rice and pickles.

Here is the open-grilled saury menu. 

Saury (sanma in Japanese) is simple opened and grilled on fire.

There’s some grated white radish (daikon) to put on the fish with some soy sauce. 

It is a nice refresher to the otherwise bland dish.

Here is the menu with a white flesh fish called “sawara” which has been marinated in a Kyoto-style white miso sauce before put to grill.

The outside is crispy and sweet while the flesh inside is white and fluffy.

All the grilled fishes taste really delicious and menus are quite cheap, around 600 and 900 yen!
Breakfast is only 390 yen!

Also, you can choose between light and dark soy sauce for your fish and even lemon juice.
