Dear friends, have you eaten edamame beans before?
Did you like it?
If you did and are nuts about it (pun intended) just as I am, then you will enjoy what I am about to tell you about!
From the city of Sendai in the Tohoku region of Japan, about 1 hour north of Tokyo, you will find a very interesting dish called the Zunda Mochi.

What is Zunda?
Turns out, Zunda is paste made from finely mashed Edamame beans.

Taste wise, it is not salty as you would usually expect when eating Edamame  beans at Japanese restaurants in Indonesia.

Zunda carries a very subtle and light flavor that is slightly sweet.
When paired with delicious and chewy homemade mochi, it becomes a dessert with a match made in heaven!

For this dessert, I got mine from a famous chain store called Zunda Saryo (http://zundasaryo.com/) at the Sendai Train station.
The Zunda mochi comes in packets of 6 (865 Yen) or 12 (1730 Yen).
Since I live alone, I decided to buy the pack of 6 so I could share with some of my closest friends in school.

The interesting thing about Zunda Saryo is that, in order to ensure that the Zunda is fresh up to the very last minute, they deep froze the edamame right after processing.
In order to eat this delicious treat, one will have to wait for up to 4 hours for it to defrost.
While the wait is long (you are not allowed to use the defrost mode on your microwave oven!), one thing is for sure – this delicious and healthy dessert is guaranteed to bring a new flavor to your taste buds.
For more enjoyment, please pair it with a cup of warm green tea.

If you ever come across Zunda Mochi, please give it a try!
