1. Yokohama Cosmo World Amusement Park
Cosmo World is an amusement park in Minato Mirai 21 district at the heart of Yokohama. Since it is located just next Minatomirai station, it is handy to go there either at the beginning or end of your visit.
The main attraction of the park is Cosmo Clock Ferris Wheel which is one of the biggest ferris wheels in the world. Since there are a lot of activities for children, a family can easily spend several hours in the park.
2. Ship Nippon Maru and Yokohama Port Museum
Originally a small fishing village, the turning point for Yokohama was year 1859 when Yokohama port was opened as Japan’s first modern international trade port. You can learn about the port’s unique history in Yokohama Port Museum, located in Nippon Maru Memorial Park of
the Minato Mirai 21 District. Remember to visit also Nippon Maru, a retired a Sailing Training Ship and a well-known landmark of Yokohama that is located in the same place.
3. Yamashita Park
One of Yokohama’s charms is that you don’t have to go far to take a relaxing walk at the seaside. Yamashita Park is a 750 metres long public park located within walking distance from Minatomirai. The park has a lot of open green space and during spring and summer also beautiful flower arrangements. It is also a good place to take photographs of the harbour.
4. Yokohama Marine Tower
One of Yokohama’s most recognizable symbols Yokohama Marine Tower is just a step away from Yamashita Park. If it is getting dark you can admire the beautifully lit tower even without climbing up. However, the panoramic view of Tokyo Bay is definitely worth a visit. Especially the night view is beautiful.
5. Yokohama Chinatown
Japan’s largest Chinatown is just a 10-minute walk from Yamashita park. The impressive entrance gates to Yokohama Chinatown would already be enough of a reason to visit the area. Especially when it gets dark and the lights are lit, the atmosphere at the narrow, colorful streets is incredible. With over 500 stores, the area is full of Chinese restaurants and food stalls.
