PRETZ: The Other Stick Snack

※This article was published at July 2015.※

Pocky is a popular chocolate Japanese snack which is available all over Japan and also overseas.
As most of you know, there are so many different flavors such as green tea, strawberry, milk, and so on.

But do you know about Pretz?
Made by Glico, the same company that brought us Pocky.
The simple concept of covering pretz with chocolate was the beginning of pocky.
Pretz was already a popular pretzel stick snack since 1962 even before pocky was in the market.

The green box on the left in the picture above is salad flavor.
I don’t know why it said salad flavor because it has exactly zero similarities to real salad, it is simply salt flavor.
I remember growing up eating this.
I always took it to school trips or picnics.

Pretz comes in a variety of flavors as well as pocky.

The pretz on the right of the picture is roasted flavor.
Once again, I don’t know why it says roasted flavor because it taste nothing like it.
The taste that is to say it is like a regular chocolate-covered pocky minus the chocolate.
Slightly sweet and toasted.

The stick itself in the box is the exact same as the long-skinny pretzel as well as pocky like picture above.

Perfectly crunchy.

Tomato is my favorite flavor on the left in the picture.
With salty, glutamate-rich savoriness.

On the left side is soy sauce flavor.
It is more crunchier than the previous ones, almost like a senbei(rice cracker).
Sweet and salty, really tasty.

Try pretz and find your own favorite flavor!
