Fun! Japan has written about famous world heritage site Shirakawa-go before.
Now it’s turn for Visit Japan winners to visit the place!
After staying 1 night at Tonami Royal Hotel at Toyama prefecture, we began our day by taking the breakfast at luxurious huge hall provided by the hotel!

After tasty breakfast, we left Tonami Royal Hotel for Shirakawa-go.
Shirakawa-go itself is located in Ogi-machi, Shirakawa village, Gifu-prefecture.
This area is known as the location for practitioners of the Shirakawa religion.
The village with its gasshō-zukuri-styled farm houses has been registered as a Unesco World Heritage cultural site because of its unique scenery and traditional architecture.
As one example of its unique scenery, take a look at the photo we took on the way to the village, Deaibashi bridge.

In Shirakawa-go, first we visit Kanda House. Before entering the house, we took off our shoes. Inside the house there is an irori. A traditional Japanese sunken hearth used for heating the home and for cooking food.
The Kanda House is protected by the irori ash. The entire houses including the floor becomes black because of the ash.

Inside the Kanda House, we can also see various kinds of knives used to cut the woods.

Kanda house has 4 floors. To go from 1 floor to the other we need to use very steep ladder. Be careful guys!

We also took times to drink the free hot Japanese tea inside the house.

With its strong agricultural culture, Shirakawa-go has really funny hay-man.
In Japan, hay-man is called kakashi. It helps to protect the rice from crow.

And it also has rice field! The paddy was just planted when we visited the place.

Next up is Hida Takayama.
Also located in Gifu prefecture, we rode the bus for around 1.5 hours from Shirakawa-go to reach the place.
Hida Takayama has ancient streets, old buildings, museums, all share a high historical value. As its street construction is very similar to Kyoto’s, Hida Takayama started to be known as "Little Kyoto"
Take a look at the photo of the winners in the ancient streets of Hida Takayama.

Jojo, Winy, Dear and Mama also went to Japanese restaurant here. Its traditional atmosphere is truly amazing.

Winy ate tasty soba ala Hida, while Mama decided to eat very delicious curry with famous Hida beef.

We spent time more than 1 hour at the restaurant and talk a lot about each other family, hobby and other happy things. Hehehe.
You can learn more about Hida Takayama at our previous article.
What a beautiful day! Going back to the past in three beautiful places. By the way, not only the scenery, all three places also have great souvenirs that you can buy as omiyage. Start from Kit Kat with special flavor (red bean sandwich flavor) to local Japanese sake!

What do you think about their trip guys?
