Hokkaido is popular not only for its winter snow landscapes and hot springs, but also as a summer getaway around this time of year, when the weather is growing hotter and hotter by the day.
Hokkaido has a stable climate, making it a great travel destination, so why not take a trip up there?

Hokkaido is popular for its winter landscapes, ski resorts, and hot springs, but I’d also definitely recommend visiting during the warmer months.

June and July are the “rainy season” in Japan, but this doesn’t affect Hokkaido.

What’s more, the climate is cool even during the summer months, and typhoons have little effect on the region, making it a perfect travel destination.
I’m going to be introducing some places that I’d recommend visiting during the early to mid-summer months.

First up are the lavender fields of Furano.

The best time to see the flowers in bloom varies according to the species, but late June to early August is generally the best time.

Mid- to late July is the peak time, and the area is packed with visitors.

The expanse of tiny purple flowers stretching out in all directions truly is a sight to see.

Take a stroll around the fields of lavender, surrounded by its relaxing aroma.

Hokkaido is also famous for one of its local specialties, melons.

Shown in the photo is Santa no Hige (“Santa’s Beard”), a popular menu at Popura Farm in Furano.

A generous slice of melon is topped with rich, milky soft-serve ice cream.

Hokkaido is famous in Japan for its agricultural and dairy products—and this dessert lets you enjoy ample portions of both of them!

Next I’m going to talk about the magnificent landscapes of Biei.
Biei is close to Furano, so I’d recommend visiting the two together.
The area is well-known for its vast hills and rural landscapes; its beautiful scenery has been used numerous times in Japanese TV commercials and so forth.
The vast greenery of its potato and wheat fields soothes and calms the mind.

Staying in Biei, this is Shinsei-no-Oka in Panorama Road, which is covered in a blanket of sunflowers once summer arrives.
This sunflower field, stretching out as far as the eye can see, is so beautiful that it’s guaranteed to take your breath away.
The best time to come is around August and September.

This is the mystical Aoi-Ike (“the Blue Pond”), again in Biei.
The aluminum in the water gives the surface of the lake its striking blue color.
The color is particularly vivid on sunny days.

The vibrantly-colored natural scenery of Hokkaido in early summer gives you the chance to experience an altogether different perspective of the area compared to the land of white snow it is famous as.
Make sure to take a trip there if you can!
