Do you love pickles?
I do!
I’ve always wanted to buy pickles as a gift for home, but the problem is that they only last for a few weeks.
However, I’ve found the product that solves the problem!

While hunting for gifts in Kyoto’s Isetan department store, I stumbled across a small stall selling dried pickles.
These pickles have been freeze dried and last for 180 days (six months)!

In order to return them to the original state, you can either mix them into hot rice to let the steam come into contact with the pickles, or you can pour a small quantity of hot water for the same effect.

Moreover, at least fifteen flavours are sold and each packet is astonishingly light!

After sampling at least half of the available flavours, I settled on “kizami-tsubo-zuke” (刻みつぼ漬) made of daikon radish.
These are my favourite type of Japanese pickles since I first arrived here; what I can say is that the original flavours still remain in full tact despite the freeze drying process.
I plan to buy a few more to take home!
