Oji shrine is located in northern Tokyo in Kita ward, just few minutes walking from Oji station.
This old shrine founded in the 14th century is one of the “ten protector shrine” of Edo, the old name of Tokyo.
Although it’s not that big, its role is very important and it holds big traditional festivals and dances in August.
This shrine is said to be good for people praying for their children, to prevent fires and bring luck in general.
One of the most famous parts of the shrine is the big gingko tree which is said to be 650 years old, one of the oldest trees in Tokyo along with the ginkgo tree from Kishibojin temple which we presented you before.
The shrine is also famous for it’s Inari festival during the New Year’s Eve where people wear fox masks.
