Lee’s Travelog - Winter Illumination at Tokyo Dome and LaQua

Winter holidays are here and what better an occasion than to celebrate it with your closest friends and family!
In Japan, winter seems to be the season of romance with couples celebrating Christmas and Valentine’s Day, taking this occasion to be lovey-dovey!

A popular location for couples to enjoy each other is at the Winter Illuminations at Tokyo Dome.
This year, the winter illumination team went all out and created stunning displays all around the area composing of about 2,000,000 LEDs!
The theme is “Promenade of Light”, and they certainly did a great job by covering the entire grounds of the Tokyo Dome and the adjacent amusement park.

One thing I really enjoyed about the “Promenade of Light” is how interactive it was. There were 2 tunnel displays of light that were connected to a Kinect machine. Once two players, or a couple, performs certain actions (eg both raising your hands, holding hands, raising alternate hands), the tunnel will have a special lighted sequence that gets activated.
It is very exciting to see what light show each movement creates.

Other than that, the guys will also be entertained as there is an Ultraman road!
A few Ultraman statues will dot the display.
I counted 3 of them – let’s see how many you can find!

The Winter Illumination at Tokyo Dome and LaQua is one of the longest lasting illuminations in the city, and lasts from November 6, 2014 to February 15, 2015.
Hence, you can enjoy it all the way till Valentines day!
Illumination begins from 5pm and stops at 1am every day.
To get there, you can take the Marunouchi Line to Korakuen Station.
From there, it is a short 2 minute walk to the illumination.
The area tends to get a little cold and windy, so please do not forget to bring your gloves and a Kairo (heat pack).
