Hello minasan,Last summer when i’m on my way back from Tokyo to Indonesia via airport, I discovered this cute snack that i can’t resist to bring home. I can’t managed to just see it without buying because i never saw any other snack like this in the world before !
It’s called as LITTLE CHICKEN CAKE HIYOKO HONPO YOSHINODO aka Meika Hiyoko Sweets ひよこ饅頭 .Little did I know, it’s a famous Japanese traditional confectionery from Chikuho Iizuka city, Fukuoka prefecture since 1912 . The founder, Shigeru Ishizaka have the idea made this unique snacks became real because in the past, there’s demand from city’s mine workers who in deep need of something sweet to eat to fullfill their energy back.Then,Shigeru -san came with a brilliant idea of making snack that is not just appealing from the apperance,but also can satisfy their craving from the taste.And that’s why this hiyoko honpo yoshinodo exist and wins heart people all over fukuoka, then tokyo and lastly became well known all over Japan and even travelers !
Usually, Hiyoko honpo yoshinodo cake packed in a box consist of 18 or 9 pieces inside that you can choose.It’s a perfect size for gift to special ones and a good companion for tea time. All these little chicken cake neatly wrapped with paper and stamped with offical logo on top. The cake appeareance is juts precisely same as real little chicken.Tan skinned, have cute little eyes and even tiny beak. I think, it’s just too cute to eat ! Don’t you think so?
Hiyoko Honpo Yoshinodo is actually made of special ingredients called ‘hiyoko flour’ that only the manufacturing company know how to made with a mix of honey. The filling inside is made from an actual egg yolk combined with bean paste. That’s why when you look at the inside, it’s just look like the same as egg.
So what about the the taste? Personally, I think this cake has a slight sweet taste . The texture is soft and delicate on the outside , it’s a bit similar with moon cake but more thin. When you chew it,you can feel like eating a perceft boiled egg. If you’re an egg lover like me will know the reason why i love this cake .And to be noted, eating just one is enough for a break time and you might feel full enough.
Last but not least, i think this cake is also perfect for photo especially some of you who love to take photos of your meal then upload it on media social. You can arrange all of them like it’s just a living snack lol.
