When searching about Japanese cake, you will find Castella cake. How if we make Castella cake at home?
I always want to make some Japanese food. Finally, I choose to try make castella cake and searching recipe and how to make it on the internet. The ingredients for castella cake actually is easy to find too here, but maybe I was still couldn’t made it like the real castella cake in Japan. This time I’m not make original one, I make castella cake with pandan leaf flavor. No, I didn’t use pandan leaf paste, I used fresh pandan leaf. Easy to find here, my uncle planted it near his house.
Why I used pandan leaf? Pandan leaf is an usual ingredient to make some sweets here, beside that, we could get natural green color for our food from pandan leaf, the aroma is smells good and you will say, this is pandan leaf. Pandan leaf also has advantage for health.
Here the ingredients I used to make castella cake with pandan leaves flavor.
150 gram wheat flour
75 gram sugar
4 eggs
5 pandan leaves
150 ml milk
2 tbsp honey
I thinly sliced the pandan leaves and then blend it with 150 ml milk. After that, I just take the juice to be mixed with other ingredients.
I was looking for the recipe and how to make castella cake, and got some recipe from cooking website. To get the great texture and beautiful golden color of castella cake (for the original one) was not easy. Although the ingredients was easy to find, but there was a technique to get tender and yummy castella cake. I have tried one of the technique to make castella cake. I whisked all the eggwhite until got stiff texture then mixed other ingredients one by one. This technique very helpful to get fluffy and expands cake. After that, I baked the cake for 25 minutes.
Tadaaaa!!! This is castella cake with pandan leaf flavour. It has light green colour, but if you want to get a deeper green colour, you can use pandan leaf more.
Although it can’t be compared with the real castella cake in Japan, but I feel so happy when I succeed to made one. If I have a chance, I want to be able to learn make castella cake in Japan :D
Let’s enjoy castella cake with a cup of hot tea!
