Do you have favorite Japanese restaurant? I have one named Hanamasa. I really love to visit it since ten years ago. I always come here for special occasion. The last I visited, it was my wedding anniversary. I celebrate it there with my husband.
Hanamasa has two concepts; All You Can Eat and Drink; and All You Can Eat, that means any drink is not included. Do refer to Hanamasa website for more information which branch has which concept. The price is also different. The one without drink is cheaper.
I usually visit Hanamasa headquarter, which is located at Cibubur, East Jakarta. It is near from my house. It is the biggest and most complete among all branches. It mainly serves beef for yakiniku and shabu-shabu, as its logo is a cow. The restaurant is dominated by red color. The ambience is cozy and warm.
Hanamasa Cibubur has All You Can Eat and Drink concept so the drink is included. Please do note that not all the drink included. You have to pay for mineral water and juices. You can find the drink that included at beverage corner.
In Hanamasa, you can choose whether you want to have yakiniku, or shabu-shabu, or even have both without extra charge. So the last option is the most interesting, right? I usually have both because I just can't choose :D
There are several buffet in the restaurant. First, Robatayaki area, where you can have grilled food. You cannot take the raw food on the display directly and grill it at your table, the chef will do it for you. You just tell to the chef which food that you want and your table number. The food will be delivered to your table. My favorite is beef sausage and squid's head. Around it, there are also ready to eat food like chicken wings, tempura, and fried rice.
Next is salad bar. While waiting your table prepared by the waitress, you can take some kind of appetizer like salad and kimchi. There is also ready to eat processed meat to accompany your salad. Beside it, there is yakiniku buffet. It is dominated by beef, but there is also raw chicken and fish. My favorite is round shaped ground beef and thin sliced beef.
Move a bit, there is shabu-shabu buffet. There are several kind of seafood like green clam, shrimp, and squid, variety of meatballs and fish cake, even shirataki noodles. Don't forget to eat vegetables too. You can find some kind of it for shabu-shabu like morning glory and napa cabbage. Beside it, you can find rujak (fruit salad with spicy peanut and palm sugar sauce) station too.
Behind shabu-shabu bar, there is beverage and dessert station. There is drink machine for soda beverage, also several row for non-soda beverage. Beside the drink, there is a box of ice cubes if you like your drink chiller. I do love its Thai Tea. I always drink it if I eat at Hanamasa. Beside it, there is Indonesian style of dessert, pudding, rice and miso soup station.
Okay, let’s start eating. The waiter will put cow’s fat as an oil to the griller. Wait until the fat melted and spread it all around the griller. There are two kind of sauce; the first one is Niku Tare, brown sauce with sesame for dipping raw meat before you put it into griller. It prevents the meant from sticking on the griller. The second one is Soto Tare, brown sauce without sesame for eating the grilled meat. There is also orange sauce for eating shabu-shabu.
You cook the meat yourself, so you can control the cooked level whether it is rare, medium rare, medium, or done. I do love my meat in medium rare level. For shabu-shabu, put the food into the bowl until the broth has been boiled. You can control the bowl temperature by yourself. To eat beef in shabu-shabu, don’t boil it too long, just dip the meat into the broth with your chopstick until the color turn light grey. If you boil it too long, it will be tough to chew.
Make sure you finish all the food you take. Don’t ever waste it. Tip from me, take it little by little so you know if you have reached limit and stop eating.
So are you ready to eat and get full at Hanamasa? Itadakimasu!
