Here’s an idea for a special moment with a special someone, enjoying the beauty of Mt Fuji and the best of hot springs offered.
At this high-end hotel lined up along the shores of Lake Kawaguchi, you can enjoy some of the best of Japan: magnificent views of Mt Fuji across the lake, bubbling hot springs with a view, and some great food and atmosphere.
The Ubuya Hotel is located in the central area of the town that developed around Lake Kawaguchi.
The area is predominantly intended for tourists, and is a popular destination for a city break from Tokyo.
Upon checking in, you are guided to the room by the hotel staff.
They bring along tea and a snack, which allows you to settle into the room you’re staying in.
My room had a Japanese touch, although the amenities and beds more very modern.
After dinner which I enjoyed downstairs, I set about exploring the hotel.
There are various facilities.
Two noteworthy rooms are the library and the picture gallery.
The former is great for quiet reading, while the latter allows you to enjoy pictures that other guests have taken over the years.
Perhaps the highlight for me was the hot springs.
I took a bath twice: once in the evening before sleeping and the other time during the sunrise.
In the evening you cannot see Mt Fuji, but you can hear the gentle hustle-bustle of the town, as well as see the city lights reflecting along the lake.
Contrastingly, during sunrise, you can see Mt Fuji changing colour minute-by-minute, progressing from grey to red, and red to brown.
This is the time when the scenes are the richest, and to complement the view is a wonderful hot bath to relax in.
