Manju is a traditional Japanese sweet, made of a small bun filled with various filling, then steamed or fried.
The famous Taiyaki shop Kanda Daruma in Kanda also makes delicious and crispy “Karinto” manju.
Karinto manju are made with a black cane sugar bun, which could be filled with red bean paste, sweet potato or black sesame paste for example.
Here is the sweet potato and black sesame versions.
After been cooked, the manju are fried and eaten at room temperature or a little bit warm.
Manju from Kanda Daruma are particularly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
You can eat them in front of the shop or bring back home as a souvenir.
They’ll taste better if you put them few minutes in oven toaster.
If you go to Kanda Daruma to taste taiyaki, don’t forget manju as well!
