Do you see the yellow line in my picture above?
Do you know what that is called?
It is called Tenji Block (点字ブロック)
The first time I came to Tokyo, I didn’t really notice about that yellow line which has a rough surface.
Japanese people would call it 凸凹(でこぼこ), or “bumps”.
This yellow line is a guide for those who are visually impaired.
The Japanese government makes sure everyone is given an equal opportunity, and always gives the best facilities for them.
You can see these tenji blocks almost all over Japan, especially in large cities like Tokyo and Osaka.
One of the biggest challenges for them is to cross the road.
Thus, they have a button at the crossing.
They can press this button.
And…
It will play a sound to signify that the signal is green, and can start walking.
You can see that these tenji blocks are really useful for those who really need it.
Not only Japan, I hope this tenji block can spread all over the world!
