Kibi dango and Amazake

Kibi dango is a type of Japanese sweets that is made with kibi (millet) powder, sweet rice and coated with Kinako(soybean flour).
It is like sweet mochi.
Kibi dango is familiar to most of Japanese people because it appears the important role in the Japanese famous old tale “Momotaro”.
He “Momotaro” gave three animals kibi dangos to ask them to come battle against Oni(Japanese demons).

So I found this little stand on Nakamise street at Asakusa that sells kibi dango.
During the Edo period, Kibi dango was popular on this street.
4 balls of dango is on one stick.
You can see how they boil it and sprinkle with kinako right in front of you.
It is interesting to see how they are prepared.
Even the costumes that ladies were wearing were cute.

5 sticks for 330 yen is pretty reasonable!

Also  Amazake(sweet sake) was available.
As you know, it is a non-alcohol drink, so anyone can drink it anytime of the day.
On cold and rainy days, a cup of warm amazake sound awesome!

They have cold matcha green teas during summer.
