Hi, Navio here.
Going home late is really annoying.Because train service will stop working around 00:00~01:00 in the morning, depending on the line.
Here in Japan, taxi is the solution to this problem.
Of course taxi will cost you more money than using a train, but there's nothing we can do about it.
This is the only way you can reach your house in the middle of the night.

This is my experience about taking a ride home at 2 AM in the morning.
That's my friend right there waiting in the middle of the street to stop passing-by taxis.
You are not alone.
Many people, especially drunk people who just finished their "activity" in a club or bar, are also going home around this time.
Is it necessary to stand in the middle of the road?
Umm, it's dangerous to be honest, but if you wait in the sidewalk, the other people will get your taxi.
Yep, not many taxis are available during the night.
Most of them are already occupied with passengers.
Just be careful!

Taxis in Japan is kinda different with the one in Indonesia.
Taxis here has a small sized LED Lamp Board with Kanji on it.
So today, I am going to tell you how to differentiate those kanji.
Even though I couldn't manage to take a picture of the kanji, because the taxis were moving so fast, but I hope this list below will be helpful in the future.
1. 空車 (in red torch) = no passenger, this is the kanji that you have to keep an eye for.
it means that the taxi is available.
2. 賃送 / 実車 (in light green torch) = passengers on board (taxi is not available)
3. 支払 (in orange torch) = the passenger is currently paying.
The taxi might be available soon.
4. 迎車 (in orange torch) = someone already booked the taxi, it's on its way to somewhere.
Nope, you can't use it.
5. 割増 (in light green torch) = extra charge (during night time)
6. 回送 (in light green torch) = out of service.
7. 高速 (in orange torch) = usually displayed in the highway.
8. SOS (in red torch) = is in a state of emergency
After waiting for about 1 and a half hours, we finally managed to get into one.
It was 3:30 AM in the morning.
I arrived at my house at 4 AM.
What an interesting experience.
