Hi friends!
Have you entered a Japanese restaurant, expecting quiet, polite service, only to walk into a surprise? Many of my friends have asked me why the restaurant staff yells at you when you walk in – did I do something wrong?! What are they shouting?
They are, in fact, saying: “Irasshaimase!”… or “welcome!”
When a customer walks into a restaurant or shop, everyone acknowledges your arrival by inviting you in: irasshaimase!!! Next time this happens, don’t be surprised!
