Weekend dinner in Manhattan Fish Market, Japan: 100% halal!
The Manhattan Fish Market is a newly opened American-style halal restaurant located in the heart of Tokyo, Japan. The place can be reached for about 5 minutes walking from east exit Ikebukuro Station.
As you enter the restaurant, you will be welcomed by warm greetings in both Japanese and English by the restaurant staffs and a cozy atmosphere with cute framed pictures displayed on the wall. Sitting in most tables, you will have a view of the kitchen where you can see the chefs and the staffs preparing the food.
The menu offers a wide variety of seafood cooked in various cooking ways: flamed, grilled, poached, baked, or fried. They have fish, prawn, mussel, oyster, calamari, and chicken as well. You can even find soup, fishburger, salad and seafood pasta. The price ranges from 580-1400 for starters/appetizers and starts from 1080yen for the other main dishes. If you go with lots of friend you might want to order platters, which combined variety of seafood (sometimes together with garlic herbs rice and chips and veggies) in one big plate! You can have this platter from 2980-5980 yen. You can also order small platters if you’d like to enjoy the platter in fewer portions.

Tiger prawn: this is my fave!
For the beverages, they have floats, coffee, tea, juice, and other refreshing drinks for about 380-680 yen. Surprisingly, unlike any other Japanese restaurants, they do not serve alcohol at all. And desserts are ready if you feel like eating something sweets.

We were kind of lost of what to eat and in the end we ordered small platter of Calamari Mussels Chicken (1580yen) and Pepper Mayo Salmon Burger (1080 yen). While waiting for our food, we wanted to do our pray since we came at around Maghrib time. Luckily, they provide small prayer room close to the restroom and there was a prayer mat that we can use there also. Ask the restaurant waiters and they will happily show you the prayer room! And don’t worry, they have Moslem staffs (I think they can speak English) in case you need to ask them something.

The foods we ordered were exquisite, and we had a pleasant dining experience here. Even if it was called small platter, it was quite a big portion I couldn’t finish by myself so I shared it together with my friend.
Since its first opening in early 2014 in Tokyo, I have been to Manhattan Fish Market for about 4 times. For me, it is one of the favorite places to hang out and have meal in Tokyo because all of its foods are halal. And because they also provide a prayer room, I do not need to worry looking for place to pray in the middle of the dinner. Another plus point: in some of the tables near the wall, they provide small power outlets which you can use to charge your phone.
Ikebukuro is a pretty big station. If you come to Tokyo for sightseeing there is a chance you will eventually drop by Ikebukuro. So, why don’t you try Manhattan Fish Market during your trip in Tokyo?
