Takenoko-no-sato(Bamboo village) or Kinoko-no-yama(mushroom mountain).
This has been the eternal question in the Japanese chocolate snack world.
Cute chocolate topped on crispy biscuits called “Kinoko-no-yama(mushroom mountain)” and the bamboo shoot shaped cookies coated with chocolate called “Takenoko-no-sato(bamboo village)” are the most recognized and popular chocolate snack in Japan since 1979.
I grew up eating this ever since I was a little child, and it always has been my favorite.
They both taste delicious, but I personally like Takenoko-no-sato more.
Let me remind you all again, they both are very delicious!
The classic and perfect bite-size for snack time.
The debate has been heated over years which makes it more likable.
You must try it for yourself and find out!
There is no big surprise.
Because they are Japanese snacks, they come with various flavors.
The bowl on the left in the picture is strawberry flavored Kinoko-no-yama with cute pink colored chocolate caps.
Chocolates and bananas are always the best matching pair.
The bowl on the right is Takenoko-no-sato with banana flavored chocolate.
There is no word to describe it besides “Yummy”.
The new version of these products have “Otona-no” in front of the original names.
Otonano literally means ‘for adults’ in Japanese.
So it means chocolate snack for grown ups.
What is the difference from the original ones?
The chocolate is more bitter and less sweet, and so are biscuit and cookies.
Pretzels that they use instead of biscuits for Kinoko-no-yama are much crispier and less sweet.
These series of chocolate snacks have more variation like pocky.
Try them for yourself and find your favorite!
It may be hard to decide which one taste the best.
