Taste the Kaisen-Don in “Ochazuke” style

Hello … Siah is here to share her food discoveries again!
Were you aware that there is this “pouring soup into the  rice and eat together” style in Japan? As in this picture, Ochazuke is quite common among the Japanese people.

“Ocha” used at such situation is not always referring to tea, but rather a fragrant clear soup people use to match with the rice and toppings.

Although the soup is not the highlight of an Ochazuke dish, it plays a very important role in bringing out the aroma of the food.

The common Ochazuke dishes which can be easily found in Japan are the Ume-chazuke (sour-plum), Sake-chazuke (salmon fish) and such.

The main toppings that are used in Ochazuke are usually fresh food without much processing, the freshness of the food itself will interact with the soup, creating a new sensation of these fresh food.

Unlike Ramen, Ochazuke is very light and easy to consume.

After mixing the rice and the soup, it will turn into something very similar to porridge.

Whenever I feel like I have less appetite, I always like to go for light food like Ochazuke.

Also, whenever there are big events where the Japanese feast heavy food, they like to end their meal with this light Ochazuke to balance and ease up a little.

My lunch of the day!! Ochazuke x Kaisen Don at Sushi Zanmai, Narita Airport for 1380yen.

Usually Kaisen-Don (rice bowl topped with seafood) itself tastes really good, adding ochazuke as another option makes it even better!
