Best Souvenir in Yamanashi Prefecture : The Shingen Mochi -Siah's gourmet diary-

Hello, here comes another dessert post from Siah ♡

Today’s dessert is the famous Shin Gen Mochi ( Shin Gen Rice Cakes) of Yamanashi prefecture!

In case you don’t know where is Yamanashi prefecture, it is the prefecture where Mount Fuji belongs to. And the Shin Gen Mochi is popular enough to be recognized as the representative souvenir of Yamanashi Prefecture.

The packaging of Shin Gen Mochi. Shin Gen Mochi is a kind of traditional Japanese sweet( Wagashi)  in Japan. One set of Shin Gen Mochi souvenir set contains 8 small packs in it.

It cost around 1200 yen (excluding tax).

Shin Gen Mochi is not something you can open the package and directly put it in your mouth.

It requires a little effort before consuming it. And let me show you how to do it!

After you open the little red package, you will find a white plastic container with the rice cake inside and the top is all covered with the rice cake powder. It also comes with a stick and a bottle of Kuromitsu(brown sugar syrup).

Pour the Kuromitsu into the white container and mix it up!

And then it is ready to be served!!
The perfect combination of the Mochi and the black sugar syrup and the rice cake powder really impressed me!
Shin Gen Mochi has won itselves gold medal at the Monde Selection Award for 3 years continuously since 2012 till this year.

Do try it if you ever visit Yamanashi Prefecture!!

I love Shin Gen Mochi ♡ Itadakimasu!!
