I visited an Italian restaurant in Kyoto called “Robinson” with my family.
While the menu here is focused on Italian cuisine, the restaurant décor and style are unique, with noticeable traces of Kyoto’s historic “machiya (町屋)” and traditional Japanese charm. It’s also a venue for wedding receptions, making weekend table reservations difficult.
The exterior is typical of Kyoto’s style. You would never guess it’s an Italian restaurant!
Here’s the menu… getting excited!
The ambience… the doors just opened, so we are one of the first customers.
Japanese style gardens
Towards the back, there were Japanese-style rooms (washitsu); we’ll eat there next time!
A view of the kitchen.
First comes the bread. They’re all delicious - and bottomless!
Rather than ordering from the set menu, we decide to order a la carte. With summer just around the corner, we were tempted by “summer vegetables.”
For appetizers, we ordered the terrine of summer vegetables: looks so fresh!
We then got a plate of snapper carpaccio.
Here is the pasta dish, with fresh tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella cheese: the cheese and tomato sauce paired well with the thin noodles.
Baked risotto with Italian porcini mushrooms and parmigiano cheese: the aroma of the baked cheese and mushrooms were to die for!
The main course was sautéed veal with summer vegetables… the meat was tender, and the vegetables were cooked to perfection.
And finally, a plate of 5 different desserts – the sweet and sour raspberries was a delightful finish.
When we finished eating, my son presented me with a gift.
Today is Father’s Day in Japan – looks just like me!
He’s 4 years old; I’m thankful that he’s a healthy boy!
