Japanese public transportation is well developed and very convenient for sightseeing. However, some places only can access by car or easier to access if you use a car. Hokkaido is one of the places that is better to use a car.


In this time, participants went to driving travel in Hokkaido with a rent-a-car from Nippon Rent-a-Car, which is one of the biggest and secure rental car companies in Japan. Participants were very satisfied with their service and their journey in Hokkaido. We would like to share the whole picture of their trip.

We used Nippon Rent-a-Car Kushiro station rental office at this time, and we came to pick up the car that I already reserved. We were glad that customer service staff could take care of me in English.




Manual and important notice were written in English and Traditional Chinese, so we could start my rent-a-car travel without any worries.




At this time, we rented Alphard Hybrid, which has very comfortable seats, we felt like we would be fight over the seats….




You can also rent a sticker which says the driver is foreigner! If you use this sticker, local driver can considerate toward you, so let’s utilize this sticker.



Let’s head to Akan lake!

It takes 80 minutes from Kushiro to Akan by car. You can see the wide open sky and beautiful landscape on your way to Akan lake. If you are very lucky, you might see wild crane! Also, you have a chance to see deer and bears too.




Time went by so fast, and we arrived at Akan lake with exciting driving. Then, we walked around lake, path of pocket, and Ainu Kotan.


You can stop by wherever you want is also attractive point of driving trip!

On the way to Akan, we found grazed cows! So cute!!!! We parked the car right away.




Hokkaido is very famous for dairy farming. You can try delicious dairy products, such as ice cream, butter, yogurt, and so on. We started to feel like we wanted to eat ice cream, so we went to ranch and enjoyed ice cream and yogurt.


Next, we found mountain with smoking

Now, we were full and continued the driving, we found smoke in the distance! What is that? We decided to get closer to that smoke….




And, it was a mountain called Mount Io, on this mountain, hot spring gushed out, and smell was like sulfur…. But, we were a little bit addicted to this smell, and got out from car and got closer to the smoke. I bought a boiled egg at the store. This store sold the boiled egg which is boiled by hot spring. These surprise things unique to driving travel!


Buying snacks and souvenirs at Mich-No-Eki

Japan has a “Mich-No-Eki”, which is a refreshment area. This place has restaurant that you can enjoy the snacks, it also has souvenir shop which you can buy local souvenirs. Of course, this place has restroom and vending machines too, so you can feel free to stop by this place.




In addition, the car that we rented this time could load a lot of things. 6 people include driver took a seat comfortably, also the trunk space was huge too! We could load 6 suitcase easily.

Dropping off the car is also smooth

At this time, we dropped off the car at Memanbetsu airport office. It is very convenient that you can drop off the car at the different office from the office that you picked the car up. Nippon Rent-a-Car signboard was welcomed us warmly in the night. Staff took care of us with smile and told us “You must be tired”, then we tried to say thank you in Japanese and told them “Arigatou Gozaimasita”.



Looking back this driving travel, we realized it was because of Nippon Rent-a-Car that we could progress our travel smoothly and finished safely. When we visit Japan next time, we would like to choose the sightseeing place that can enjoy with rent-a-car, such as Okinawa, Hokuriku and so on! Overall, we enjoyed this travel a lot.
