"Gero Onsen", being recognized as one of the three best hot springs in Japan, is a hot spring area located in Gero City, Gifu Prefecture. Gero Onsen-ji Temple
Gero Onsen-ji Temple is located at the top of 173-step stone stairs. Because it is located on a high hill, you can overlook Gero Onsen Town, and you can enjoy a view that is unique to Japan. Autumn leaves are lit up in the fall, and many people visit. Footbath "Momiji footbath" is in the temple and anyone can enter for free.

Accessibility from Takayama to Gero Onsen
To get from JR Takayama Station to Gero Onsen, take JR Takayama Main Line train bound for Gifu, and arrive at Gero Station in about 50 minutes. It is about 5-10 minutes on foot from Gero Station to the hot spring town. From Takayama, you can get on a bus at Takayama Nohi Bus Center bound for Gero Bus Center and arrive in about 1 hour and 20 minutes.
