You can get from Takayama to Shirakawa-go's Ogimachi Village is about an hour by bus. If you are coming from Tokyo, bus or train is recommended.

8 hours by bus from Tokyo to Toyama, then Shirakawa-go. You can arrive for about 4200 yen. By train, go from Tokyo to Toyama by Shinkansen, and from Toyama to Shirakawa-go by bus. Transportation costs will be around 15,000 yen, but it takes around 3 hours, so it's recommended for people who want ease of travel. (As of April 2019)
