About The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum
The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, which opened in 2005, is a part of Nagasaki Seaside Park. It holds a collection of modern and contemporary art of approximately 7,000 items, including Spanish works related to Nagasaki, with Spanish works collected by Suma Yakichirou, a Japanese diplomat stationed in China and Spain.
The fully glassed museum is divided into two buildings, the Gallery Building and the Art Museum Building, and a small canal flows in the center. This design of combining water and nature has been highly acclaimed from around the world, and has received numerous awards for design and architecture.

Exhibition Space Where You Can Appreciate Various Works of Art
There is a permanent exhibition room (collection exhibition) and a planned exhibition room on the second floor of the museum building. The collection exhibition is especially worthwhile. A number of works are displayed, including many of the finest Spanish artworks in the world, such as Picasso, Miro and Dali, as well as Japanese-style paintings such as Kakejiku (hanging scroll) and Byobu (Folding screen). These collections are displayed on rotation several times a year.
Superb Spots such as the Roof Garden and Bridge Corridor
After looking at the artwork, you should also visit the spot where you can see a superb view. First go to the corridor on the canal that connects the gallery building and the museum building. There is a cafe there, and you can enjoy the dishes made of selected local ingredients from the prefecture, with a view of the canal where the water shines in the daytime.
In addition, there is an open garden with a great view. You can overlook Nagasaki Port where ships come and go during the daytime, and in the evening you can see the panoramic night view of Nagasaki overlooking Nagasaki Bay.
Opening Hours and Admission Fee of The Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum
The opening hours of the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum are from 10:00 to 20:00, and regularly closed on every second and fourth Mondays (if Monday falls on a national holiday or a substitute holiday, the museum is closed on the following Tuesday) and New Year’s holiday (December 29 - Jan 1). The building is free entrance, but paid exhibitions such as planned exhibitions and collection exhibitions require admission fee. The permanent collection exhibition costs 400 yen per adult. Access to the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum
When going to the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum, first go to Dejima from JR Nagasaki Station by tram of Nagasaki Electric Tramway. The tram takes about 4 minutes to get to Dejima.
After getting off the tram, the Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum is about 3 minutes on foot.
