When you’re visiting the beautiful Japan, consider staying at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) rather than a hotel. You will experience the Japanese “Omotenashi” that makes the country so welcoming and guest-friendly.
Experience Omotenashi at TAKAHAN in Echigo Yuzawa
Omotenashi is translated as “Japanese hospitality”, and it is perhaps the main vision of ryokan. From welcoming you to bidding farewell, the service and care provided are top notch.
Echigo Yuzawa, is a town famous for hot springs. TAKAHAN is one of the hotel here providing warm hospitality, beginning with their mini-bus pick up service to the inn on the slope of a mountain.
Warm Greeting
The owner of the inn greets the guests by names at the entrance, providing a quick tour around and finally to the room. In the room, there are tatami straw mats, wall painting scrolls, floor-level chairs, paper doors... things that make up Japanese atmosphere.
Natural Onsen in Echigo Yuzawa
After check-in, you can take a rest with the complimentary green-tea and embraced the Japanese traditions in the room until sunset. Before dinner time, it is recommended to have a warm bath in the ryokan’s onsen (hot spring).
TAKAHAN’s hot spring is natural from the earth, retaining the minerals and the hot temperature. There is also a cool bath with water running straight from the mountain, which turns into an ice-cold bath during the winter!
Enjoy the Relaxation in Japanese Ryokan at Night!
Ryokan guest can wear the provided yukata (casual kimono) for dinner. You can choose a delightful Japanese full course with appetizers, fish, meat, rice from Niigata (arguably the best in Japan), dessert. You can inform the ryokan of any food restrictions when making your reservation and they will adjust for you. At night, you can also walk around the inn to enjoy the history exhibition. Upon returning to the room, the beds will have been well prepared for the guests.
Try Out Various Onsen Around Echigo Yuzawa!
There are different hot springs of other ryokans around town which you can enter with a fee. So, let’s repeat the same relaxation process in Echigo Yuzawa and try to distinguish the difference! At the last, the ryokan staffs will farewell the guest before getting on the bus.
Note From the FUN! JAPAN Editor
The time flew by so quickly thanks to the care and hospitality of the ryokan. With two meals included, each night was around 12,000 yen. I truly had a stress-free vacation in the onsen town of Echigo Yuzawa. The bath was spacious and comfortable, exactly the relaxation I wanted. I’d definitely recommend everyone to seek out a ryokan experience in Japan to feel the Japanese “Omotenashi” for yourself!
